Burberry

BurberryBurberry is an international luxury brand. It's globally recognized name, trademark and signature trenchcoat have been synonymous with quality and enduring style for over 150 years.

A Bit of History

Thomas Burberry, born 1835 and apprenticed in the drapery trade. He established his own drapery buisiness in Hampshire in 1856. Burberry was a sportsman and was dissatisfied with the then popular rubberized mackintosh raincoat, which was heavy, restricting and stifling, and thus unsuitable for extended outings.
Inspired by country folk's loose "smocks", Burberry designed a tightly woven fabric made from water-repelant linen or cotton yarn. Although sturdy and tear resistant, this "Burberry proofed" cloth was lightweight and allowed air to circulate, making it considerably more comfortable than the heavy mackintosh.

The tailor trademarked his cloth "Gabardine", a Shakespearean term that reffered to shelter from inclement weather. Burberry developed five different weights if Gabardine, Airlight, Double Weave, Karoo, Wait-a-bit, and Tropical. He even patented "Burberry proofed" linings made from silk and wool.

 Burberry nowadays

As Burberry entered the 21st century, its financial results improved dramatically, with the Asian market recovering and European and American markets growing, and a new branding strategy.

Burberry also opened a new, three floor flagship store in London that was 16,000 square feet in size and featured new product lines including lingerie and swimwear.

Who does Burberry draw into its stores?

Entering a Burberry store is like entering into an old British film. The gloves set out perfectly, the umberellas with wooden heads of foxes and ducks on the end, and beautifully arranged shop displays all create the most luxurios and stylish atmosphere, i personally have even been in.
Burberry is high end luxury fashion, meaning its customers are high end, fashionable individuals. Able to afford high prices and good quality garments.

Price Architecture

More DetailsBurberrys prices are high. But with excellent reason. As a female I am ashamed to say I had never fallen instantly inlove with a pair of shoes. Something quite rare for a young woman studying fashion design. But when exploring Burberry, I fell inlove with about 8 pairs of shoes. The quailty is evident without even looking at the price tag. And the pure style that accompanies all the items in the store is phenominal.
More DetailsPrices within the brand can exceed a few thousand dollars. For example, after visiting the store, i went online to check out prices,( as i was too afraid to touch the garments in the store and check the price tags)
and i saw the most beautiful black trench coat for $2,300.

Different types of Products

There are many different product categories within the Burberry brand. And I think it is this element that makes it so atmospheric when enerting a Burberry store. You can see entire outfits put together beautifuly. Down to the gloves, or the umberella or the tie.
